USBC is accepting nominations for several national coaching awards on behalf of USBC and the United States Olympic Committee.
David Dahms Coach of the Year: The David Dahms Coach of the Year Award recognizes one USBC Youth coach who has worked with certified youth bowling programs for at least seven years and has demonstrated outstanding commitment to coaching, sportsmanship and knowledge of USBC Youth rules.
United States Olympic Committee Coach of the Year awards: Each year USBC submits the names of one coach each for National Coach of the Year, Developmental Coach of the Year, Volunteer Coach of the Year and Doc Counsilman Science Award through the USOC's Coaching Recognition Program.
USOC Coaching guidelines define the awards as follows:
National Coach of the Year: A National Coach of the Year nominee is a coach of an elite level club, collegiate, Pan-Am, World Championship or Olympic Games coach or the coach of an elite athlete who competes at the highest level of the sport. This award is based on the accomplishments of the coach for the year 2007.
Developmental Coach of the Year: A youth club, high school or junior-level coach or a coach directly responsible for developing athletes to the adult national or junior national level of the sport.
Volunteer Coach of the Year: A coach who does not receive payment in any form for his or her involvement in coaching at any level.
Doc Counsilman Science Award: A coach who uses scientific techniques/equipment as an integral part of his/her coaching methods, or has created innovative ways to use sport science.
When submitting a nomination, provide the following information about the coach:
- Name, current home and work addresses, home and work telephone numbers, e-mail address (yours and the coach's), birth date and birthplace of the nominee
- Current coaching status, including where the nominee is coaching and how many hours per week
- Certification and coaching credentials
- Caching honors and/or recognition on the local, state, national and international levels
- Examples of significant impacts on developing athletes (retroactive to Jan. 1, 2007)
- Community involvement (i.e. Red Cross, civic organizations)
- Service to the sport (i.e. assisted with local bowling association tournament, wrote articles for local bowling publications, organized summer bowling camps)
- Professional memberships (bowling and non-bowling)
- Why you think this person should be recognized as the Developmental or Volunteer Coach of the Year
