Star of the Future Scholarship Award

Andrea Gingery

Andrea (Andi) Gingery was born on March 17, 1990 to Mark & Frances Gingery. She graduated from Roseburg High School this year. Bowling attracted her attention when she was 11 years old. She watched it on TV and thought she’d like to try it, so in the summer of 2001 she began her bowling career at Indian Lanes. The game challenged her. That first year she had an 87 average. A few years passed and she joined two leagues and improved steadily. Andrea has an average of 187 for this year.

Some of Andrea’s bowling accomplishments include a high game of 289 in 2006 and a high series of 642 also in 2006. She’s had perfect attendance for the last four years and Most Improved Average for the past four years. She has bowled in several tournaments over the years and done very well. In 2007 she received the Sportsmanship Award for Roseburg High School’s bowling team. She took 6th place in the All Star points for high school and 1st place in the All Stars Junior Grand Final Tournament in 2007.

Tennis is another interest of Andrea’s. She won the Sportsmanship Award in tennis in 2006 and then in 2007 she was selected Player of the Week for tennis by the News Review paper.

Andrea’s career goal is to become a Sonography Technician. She will be attending Umpqua Community College to take her basic courses and then will apply to OIT in Klamath Falls to complete her training/education in Sonography. She chose this field because she likes working with her hands, learning new things, looking at interesting cases and trying to figure out what’s wrong with the patient.

Andrea’s hobbies include tennis, bowling, her family and jewelry making. She volunteer’s at the Roseburg Veteran’s Hospital four hours a week.

This summer Andrea is attending Umpqua Community College and working at Sim’s Electric. If her schedule permits, she hopes to bowl in one or two leagues this fall. She will miss bowling for RHS, but if time permits she will be there to cheer them on.

Dean Kiser

Dean Kiser was born on December 5, 1988. He was born with Spinal Meningitis and Epilepsy. He had seizures that were so severe it became necessary to wear a helmet. When his symptoms finally abated around the age of five, there was turmoil in his home. In 1994 he entered the Foster Care System. After being removed from his home and siblings several times, he and his sister were adopted into a wonderful family that introduced them to the sport of bowling. Although he has had much to overcome, he has done a fine job of making the most of what he has.

In 2006-07 Dean had a bowling average of 165 and this season he ended with a 200 average. He has a high series of 757 and a high game of 299, which were bowled in November 2007. He has participated in numerous tournaments and done very well. Dean bowled on the Mazama High School team from 2004 to 2008. He graduated this spring and was a member of the Business Leadership of America and competed at the state level. He earned the Business Management Award from Mazama High School. His goal is to attend Boise State University and graduate with a BA degree in Business Management.

Dean performs community service once a month by visiting the residents at an Assisted Living Home. The facility is called Linkville House.

Bowling is Dean’s main hobby. He also shares the love of the sport by assisting with some of the Lil Saturday Jrs. Bowling League. He has been an active participant in the youth program at the Epicenter. He does fundraisers for the Mazama team and volunteers during the PBA Senior Tour every year. The event last 3 to 4 days and Dean arrives early and stays late. He is one of the lane monitors and is meticulous in presenting correct information to the Tournament Director. He is so quiet that the bowlers hardly know he’s there, while making score corrections, changing names and tracking the scores. He has definitely become a favorite of the professional bowlers because of his efficiency and commitment to the tournament. His sportsmanship is second to none. He is a favorite of all the youth bowlers

Dean’s coaches and the proprietor of the Epicenter have nothing but praise for this young man. They each sent letters of recommendation and are convince that he will go far as an adult.
