JAN DAVIES
During
the banquet at the OSUSBC’s annual meeting in Roseburg, the Hall of Fame
was awarded to Jan Davies, President of the OSUSBC.
Jan Davies started his bowling career in Coos Bay Oregon at the age of
12. Since that time he has accomplished a great many things. He became a
State Director with the Oregon State Bowling Association in the late
1980’s and worked his way up through the chairs to become President
during the 2003-04 season. Presently Jan is our first President of the
OSUSBC Association and has served in this capacity since 2005. He has
bowled as a card-carrying member for 34 years, mostly in Klamath Falls
and will be bowling league in Medford for the 2008-09 season. He has
bowled in 28 State Tournaments, 34 other association tournaments and he
just bowled in his 24th National Tournament.
Among Jan’s many bowling achievements are two 800 series, eleven 300
games, one 298 game and one 299 game. He has three plaques for 11
strikes in a row as well as numerous other awards. He served as the
Klamath Falls Association secretary from 1984 to 2006. He was a major
player in the merger between the men and women in Klamath Falls as well
as Lakeview.
Jan was a Marine Corp brat. He was born on Christmas Day in South
Carolina. The family moved to Oregon in 1966. According to his mother he
was a mischievous child and very curious. He would throw snakes on the
porch when his mother came to the front door. Railroad detectives would
come to the house, as the boys would throw rocks at the boxcars. Jan has
a daughter living in Lebanon Oregon. Jan’s wife Debbie says it took Jan
25 years to get smart and marry her. Earlier this year they were
successful in adopting a child. Jan and family moved to Medford in
November 2007. He works for Coca-Cola.

Hall of Fame (women’s)
Gerry Taylor
Gerry
Taylor was inducted as the 3rd OSUSBC recipient of the Hall of Fame
during the Annual Meeting Banquet in Roseburg at the Douglas County
Fairgrounds in May of 2008.
Gerry began her bowling activities in Roseburg in 1970. In 1975, she and
her late husband, Dave, moved to Washington DC due to a job transfer of
Dave’s. While there for three years they both participated in bowling
activities in Baltimore Maryland and Washington DC.
Upon their return to Oregon they settled in Medford and Gerry became
involved in the Medford WBA, which in turn became Rogue Valley WBA and
subsequently Rogue Valley USBC. During those years she held various
association positions ranging from committee member to Association
President. Her committee participation included local tournaments, lane
certification, BVL and numerous others. Gerry has also been honored with
awards, such as Medford WBA Bowler of the Year, Medford Hall of Fame,
Life Member and Oregon Bowling Writers Ginger Frazier Award. She also
served as the coordinator of the transition team for Rogue Valley when
they went from ABC/WIBC to USBC.
Gerry served as the Tournament Director for the Oregon State USBC
Women’s Championship Tournament this year, which was held in Grants
Pass. In an effort to promote the tournament she spent a week in the
cities of Brookings, Klamath Falls, Grants Pass, Roseburg and Medford.
That effort resulted in numerous additional teams from the Southern
Oregon area.
As an OSUSBC director, Gerry has served on many committees and chairs
the Awards and Recognition Committee. She has served as Hostess for the
Lava Lanes-Medford PBA Tournament for the past six years. She has also
been league secretary for 30 years. She’s attended 28 State Jamboree’s,
bowled in 30 Women’s State Tournaments and 26 National Tournaments.
