32nd Annual Tournament

5 April 2008

Twenty three ladies traveled over the mountain, in snow, and joined three ladies from the Bend area to bowl the 32nd Oregon State Queens on April 5th at Lava Lanes.

The format was changed for the smaller number of entrants to an 8 game qualifying and then we went right into the head to head matches, so the tournament was over on Saturday.

Kathy Tribbey, Dundee, was the high qualifier with a 1670 for the 8 games, followed by Bonnie Cox, La Pine, with 1538.

To make the cut to the final 16 a 169 average was needed.

In the first head to head match, Kathy Tribbey bowled Natalie Cardoza and won with a 213 to 190.  Kathy's next opponent was Kelly DeLisle, Grants Pass, which Kelly won with a 213-202.  This put Kathy in the losing bracket with one loss.  In the third match Kathy bowled Penny Fentiman, Lebanon, and won 244-219, giving Penny her 2nd loss.

Lyn Randall, Roseburg, was Kathy's 4th match and she won 237-215, which was Lyn's 2nd loss.  The 5th match against Yolanda Hagues, Springfield, was again won by Kathy 189-172.

All was quiet as Pattie Cochran and Kathy bowled to see who would be in the roll off for Queen against Kelly DeLisle, Grant's Pass, but again Kathy had the higher score 224 to Pattie's 219.

As Kathy was coming thru the head to head matches, Kelly DeLisle who had qualified 7th and averaged 186 was undefeated and ready to roll the final match.

Kelly had bowled against Lela Larkin, Medford, in her 3rd game and came on strong with a 268-194.  In the 4th match in the winning bracket she was up against Debbie Baerman, Merlin, in which Kelly was rolling them smooth with a 254-177 win.  This brought her to wait in the wings with 2 byes.

Everyone was anxious for the final match with Kelly and Kathy and as always all was quiet for the final match.  Kathy rolled a 258-223, giving Kelly her first loss, so that meant another game, until one of them had 2 losses.

Kelly came out striking as did Kathy, with the ending score 269 for Kelly to 259 for Kathy.

This was Kelly's 4th time bowling in the Queens.

Bonnie Cox, last year's Queen crowned Kelly.

A Big Thank You to all who bowled the tournament and to Lava Lanes for inviting us.  Thanks also to the Bend USBC for providing the 3 hours of free practice time on Friday afternoon and doing the monitoring for the tournament.  Thank you to Sandi Davis of Bend for putting together the bag with waters, apples, granola bars and other goodies for the entrants.

Another big Thank You goes to the Spouses, Boyfriends, Parents and Family who came to support the ladies who entered the tournament.

After the Oregon State USBC meeting on May 3, 2008, the date and place for the next tournament will be posted on the OSUSBC website.
