Local USBC Associations

In order to allow our viewers to know what is happening within the state as far as the local associations and their transition to USBC, this page is being created.  As information comes in from the different locals, the page will grow.  If your association isn't listed here yet, you might want to encourage your local board to send an update to the Webmaster ( webgal@osusbc.com ).  All of the associations are listed in alphabetical order.


Astoria  Association President Stephen Gaydos sent this...Just a few words from the Northwest corner of the state.  We are alive and kicking and would like to welcome new board members to the Lower Columbia Association.  President Stephen Gaydos, Vice President William Ray and continuing Chief Executive Officer Della Aarnio.  With fresh blood on the board, we hope this will bring new ideas and help our local association grow.


Albany   Association Secretary Jane Muir responded by saying that the Albany BA, WBA and YABA will be merging.  The new name for their association will be Mid-Valley USBC Association.  They plan to be merged and chartered by March 1, 2006 and be in place for the 2006 - 07 season.  Their Plan of Merger, ByLaws and Policy & Procedures Manual are completed.  They have even advanced to a stage of having selected their logo, type of uniform and graphic for their shirt backs.

Jane says that they have their nominating forms out and have a deadline for responding as August 15, 2005.  Their General Meeting is scheduled for September 25, 2005 for election of Officers and Directors and voting on the ByLaws. They will soon be posting the job description and applications for Association Manager.

October 1st update from Recording Secretary Jane Muir states that the organizational meeting was held on September 25th and officers and directors were elected.  The bylaws were approved at that time also.  The new board consists of President Ron Hall and Vice President Carol Smith.  Fourteen adult directors were elected and four youth representatives were selected.  Applications for Association Manager will be accepted through October 25th.  They will have their first meeting of the new Board and Transition Board on Saturday, November 12, 2005.  The appointment of Association Manager and completion of the Chartering process will take place after this meeting.


Bay Area  The report from there is from Robert Warrick, who informs us that the Coos Bay-North Bend BA, the Greater Bay Area  WBA and the North Bend YABA merged last year to form the Bay Area USBC.  This is a one center association (North Bend Lanes) and serves the northern half of Coos County.  The President is Bob Nelson, Vice President is Bryan Roberts and Robert is the Association Manager.


Bend  Reporting from Bend is Charlie Thomas, who states that Bend has been chartered by USBC.  The new President of the Bend USBC is Gary Davis, 1st Vice President is Pennie Olson, 2nd Vice President is Kerry Diehl.  Charlie has agreed to serve as Association Manager for the first year.


Eugene  News received from Eugene is that the Eugene-Springfield BA, Eugene WBA and Emerald Empire YABA have merged to become the Emerald Valley USBC Association.  They are located at 143 Madison Street, Eugene OR 97402.  They can also be contacted at (541)344-4303.  The President of this new association is Joyce Clayborn, with Bambi Duncan serving as the Association Manager.  Thanks to Joyce for providing this information.


Grants Pass   The report from the Grants Pass WBA is from Ginny Copeland, Vice President, who states that they have agreed to merge with the Grants Pass BA and YABA.  A meeting was held on June 11th, in which the new officers were elected.  They will not be merging with any other association than those mentioned.  Their hope is to charter by August 1, 2005.  They are now actively looking for their Association Manager.

Ginny states that on the newly formed board, three generations of one family are represented...she, as Vice President, son Ken as a Director and grandson Justin as a Junior Director.

In a December 8, 2005 update we have news that Frank Pagnis is the President of the new Grants Pass USBC and the Association Manager is Cyndi Hanley.  They are now a Chartered Association and that was effective as of August 1, 2005.


Greater Portland  Association President Linda Scott writes that GPWBA is merging with the Portland BA and the Greater Portland YABA.  The name of this new association will be the Greater Portland USBC Association.  The Transition Board was formed last fall.  The Plan of Merger was approved by the PBA and the GPWBA at meetings held in April and was approved by the GPYABA in March.  At their first Annual Meeting of the GPUSBC on May 21st, the new Bylaws were approved and a Board of Directors was elected.  This new Board includes three proprietors and a Youth Leader, as well as several people who have never served on a bowling board before.  They have already had their first Board Meeting and the Association Manager has been selected.  The start up date for this new association is August 1, 2005.  Corporation papers have been filed with the Secretary of State and a new Employer Identification Number has been secured.  The Charter Application is being completed and will soon be mailed to headquarters.

Linda's report concluded with the following: "We are looking at this as a fresh start.  We are looking for new ideas and new ways of doing things.  There are enough 'seasoned' board members to keep us from losing touch with the past, but we also have many new members who will help us to see what we are doing from a new perspective."

Updated information from the Greater Portland USBC has it that Al Whiteman has been hired as the Association Manager.  Al has previously been the GPBA secretary/treasurer and served on the first nominating committee for the OSUSBC.


Lebanon  In an e-mail from Secretary Penny Fentiman comes the word that the Lebanon WBA, BA and YABA will be merging.  Their new association name will be the Lebanon USBC and they hope to be chartered by August 1, 2005.  They already have their Corporation number, EIN and bank account opened. 

The new board has been elected.  Their officers are as follows...President, Emmett Johnson; Vice President, Carolyn Weigel; Association Manager Penny Fentiman.  Their directors are Sheila Heineck, Gene Braught, Cheryl Simmons, Ronda Bennett, Craig Fentiman, Gene Perdue and Howard Gabel.  Their Youth Directors are Bev Dunigan and Michele Coffey.


Rogue Valley  Reporting from this association is Gerry Taylor RVWBA President, who says that the RVWBA, RVBA and RVYABA are merging.  The new name for this merged association will be Rogue Valley USBC Association.  They are not combining with any other association.  The merger will take effect on August 1, 2005.  The new association has their Tax ID number and has filed their State Corporation papers.  They have elected the new board and will be hiring the new Association Manager at the end of June.

Gerry praised the Transition Board for their work in getting their duties done in a timely manner.

July update for Rogue Valley USBC...an Association Manager has been hired.  The position is being filled by Mony Bristow.  They are currently ready to Charter and already have their Corporation papers filed and a new EIN number.
 


Salem  A report from Nancy Wilson, 1st Vice President, states that the Salem BA, WBA, Stayton WBA and Mid-Willamette Valley YABA will all be merging and become the Willamette Valley USBC Association.  They held their organizational meeting on April 2nd and elected their Officers and Directors.  The Officers are Kathy Kaplan President, Royal Tarter 1st Vice President and Dave Valleau 2nd Vice President.  They are currently in the process of selecting an Association Manager and hope to have that completed by the end of June.

Nancy indicates that they plan to be chartered by August 1, 2005.  Their board consists of twenty members, with four being from the Youth Committee.

Update for the Willamette Valley USBC...their Association Manager has been hired.  She is Nancy Wilson.


Seaside  A response was received from Cheryle Barker Seaside WBA Secretary/Treasurer, who tells us that Seaside will become a merged association, adopting the new name of Seaside USBC.  They will not be merging with any other local association.  They have already merged and elected their Board of Directors.

Cheryle concluded by saying: "We are a small town association and it made sense to combine.  We are hoping to have better attendance at meetings, more ideas to share, more people to work on getting new members, etc."


The Dalles  Secretary/Treasure of this association, Lucille Johnson writes that their association, The Dalles BA and YABA will be forming a new association, named The Dalles USBC Association and hope to be completed by August 1, 2005.  They will not be joined by any other local association.  The response from Lucille indicates that a new board has been elected and she will be the Executive Director.  She also served on their Transition Board.
